Biography

Annis Virginia Willis was born on 29 March 1912 in Mobile, Alabama.[1] She and her twin sister were the youngest children of John Henry Willis, Jr. and Arnita (Harris) Willis.

Annis was educated in the public school system of Mobile, Alabama. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama State College (now University) in Montgomery, Alabama. Annis was employed as a teacher.[2]

Annis married Daniel R. Salter on 22 February 1947.[3]

On August 1950 Alabama State College (now University) conferred on Annis Willis Salter the Masters of Education degree.[4] She obtained her Class A Elementary Professional Certificate from the State of Alabama, Department of Education in 1950.[5]

Annis Willis Salter volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader.[6]

Annis Willis Salter departed this life on Sunday, 26 March 1995.[7] She is buried in her family's plot at Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama.[8]

A TIME FOR BIRTH...

Annis Willis Salter, the youngest child of the late John Willis, Sr. and Arnita Harris Willis Jackson, was born on March 29, 1912 in Mobile, Alabama.

A TIME TO BUILD...

Mrs. Salter was educated in the public school system of Mobile, Alabama. She received her B. S. and Masters degrees from Alabama State University. Further studies were done at Tuskegee University and Alabama A&M University. She was employed as a teacher in Mississippi and Conecuh, Marion, and Colbert Counties in Alabama. She was a life member of the National Education Association.

A TIME TO LOVE...

Annis Willis Salter was united in holy matrimony to Daniel R. Salter in February 1947, and to this union one child was born.

A TIME TO DIE...

Mrs. Salter departed this life on Sunday, March 26, 1955.

A TIME TO MOURN...

She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted husband, Daniel R. Salter; a loving daughter and son-in-law; two aunts, Alberta Willis and Lillian Willis Easton, both of Mobile, AL; three nieces; three nephews; four devoted cousins, Fred Birch, Clara Cook Young, onnie Cook, Jr., all of Mobile, AL, and Helen Cook Lamar of Birmingham, AL; Three sisters-in-law, Pearl Hart and Sarah Haymon, both of Tampa, FL, and Katie Willis of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of other family and friends.
