Biography

Emily (Willis) Rossington was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

The Scone Advocate of Friday October 18 1968 gave an obituary under the heading "Emily Jane Rossington".

The death occured in Brancaster Private Hospital of a life-long and highly respected citizen of the Upper Hunter district. She was Emily Jane Rossington, 78, widow of Isaiah Rossington, who predeceased her 21 years ago. Mrs Rossington was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Willis, of Dry Creek, Moonan Flat. All her married life was spent in Gundy, where, till the time of her illness nearly three years ago, she had shown a keen interest in the activities of her church and was always an ardent gardener. Those left to mourn the loss of this dear lady are daughters, Ruth. (Mrs Thompson), Gladys (Mrs. Jones), Mavis (Mrs. Cummings), Vera (Mrs. Shanahan), Hazel (Mrs. Boas), Joyce (Mrs. Murphy), Fay (Mrs. Taylor), Janice (Mrs. Newbold), and sons, Bill, Lance, Tippo, Cec, Alwyn and Jim. Deceased is one son, Aub, and one daughter, Marion (Mrs. Smith). Also, she is survived by sisters, Beatrice (Mrs. Wilson), Ethel (Mrs. Bloomfield), Hilda (Mrs. Tilse), May (Mrs. Henry), Alma (Mrs. Fuller), Clarice (Mrs. McLoughlin), Phyllis (Mrs. Keevers) and Alice (Mrs. Brand). Brothers are Leslie, Clarence and Cecil (deceased). There are 52 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. The funeral took place in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Scone, on Thursday, followed by a burial service at Gundy cemetery, where she was laid to rest, beside her late husband. The large gathering of friends and relations, plus numerous floral tributes were an indication of the high esteem held for Mrs. Rossington and her family.
