Biography

William was born about 1742. He is the son of John Willis and Elizabeth Plunkett. He passed away in 1833. [1]

25 Nov 1761, Orange Co., VA - The will of John Willis names his son, William, and gives him slaves and "“lott in Culpeper." [2]

William received Revolutionary War Lands in Kentucky; where he and Elizabeth died. Their children were: Alexander "Sandy", Isaac, Benjamin, William. (These are given in the Catesby Willis Stewart Chart. Other researchers working with Kentucky Deeds and marriage records name 10 children.) [3]

“Before moving to Adair Co., KY, William and Elizabeth (Garnett) Willis gave two tracts to sons Isaac and Sandy (Alexander) Willis and sold 1,408 acres to Robert Patton of Fredericksburg (Culpeper Co., VA, DB X:98, X:100,AA:265). After finally settling in Boone Co., KY, William and Elizabeth sold their last remaining tract in Culpeper to their son Isaac (Culpeper Co., VA, DB FF:464). William and Elizabeth had eleven children and died in Boone Co., KY, at advanced ages. Their son Isaac Willis married Anne Garnett and lived at ‘Locust Grove’ until his death in 1867. The descendants of Isaac Willis and Anne Garnett established the Willis-Gordon-Garnett and Allied Families Association in 1935.” [4]
