A vestry book contains a very interesting reference to Richard and his sister Elleanor. When Elleanor became pregnant out of wedlock, she was condemned by the parish vestrymen. Based on what I have read in this volume about similar situations at the parish, this could have had devastating consequences for Elleanor and her child, including banishment or death, if the 12 vestrymen had so ordered. More often than not, the matter seemed to have been resolved if a large fine was paid on the condemned's behalf to the church. The 12 vestrymen, including her own brother, Thomas Jr., ordered that a fine be levied. Elleanor's brother, Richard, then paid the fine in the form of a large quantity of cultivated tobacco to redeem her and her child. They were obviously very close since Richard later left his estate to her son."

Also in 1688, Ellenor (Willis) Allden was in Court for having an illegitimate child. In the Court records we learn that the father was Henry Thacker. Land records indicate that the Thackers were neighbors to the Willis and Alden families. In 1693, Lettice Aldin, the daughter of Elenor Aldin, was bound to Mr. Marvell Moseley until she arrives at legal age. This certainly appears to have been the child which Elenore Aldin had with Henry Thacker.
