Biography

John Walpole Willis was born on 4 January 1793 in Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales, the second son of Mary Willis and William Willis.[1][2][3]

He was a barrister and later a judge.[2]

He married firstly to Mary Isabella Bowes-Lyon on 8 August 1824.[2] Their son was:

John and Mary's marriage was dissolved by Act of parliament in 1833.[2]

He married Ann Susanna Kent Bund on 15 September 1836 at St John Parish, Bedwardine, Worcester.[2][4] They had one son and two daughters:[2]

John died on 10 September 1877 in England.[2]

Research notes

According to an article in Melbourne's Table Talk in 1894, Lord Chief Justice Willis was the uncle of Ambrose Jennings Sheppard.[5] No further sources have been uncovered to date to substantiate this claim.
