Elizabeth Willoughby, daughter of Benjamin Willoughby and his wife Elizabeth, was born about 1816 in Montgomery County, Kentucky.

Marriage

Elizabeth married, 22 Aug 1833, John Jackson Powell (abt.1812-1888), son of Thomas Powell (1779-1864) and his wife Hannah Pike (1782-1870).

In 1860, Elizabeth, age 44, Farmer, is listed in Powell County, Kentucky as head of house consisting of herself and her children John 17, William 14, Morton 12, Syntha 10, and Thomas 7. John Jackson Powell is not listed. Note: There is a John Powell listed in Christian County in the 1860 Census ["United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZBK-69G : 18 February 2021), John Powell, 1860.], age 48, listed as an "insane pauper," but I found nothing to tie him to this man other than his name. Due to the distance from Powell and Menifee counties to Christian County, I did not add it as a reference below, but because of the disabilities listed in the 1880 Census I thought it should be noted in case someone wants to look into it further.

In 1870,Elizabeth Powell 53 is living in Frenchburg, Menifee, Kentucky with her husband John 55, and children Morton 20, Cynthia 18, and Thomas 16 yrs.

In 1880, Elizabeth Powell 64 is living with her husband John in Precinct 3, Powell, Kentucky. Their son Thomas 26 and his wife Sara 17 live on the next residence listed. Jackson Powell 68 is listed as blind and "Maimed, crippled, or bedridden."
