Biography

Daughter of Roy Leslie & Ethel Frances(Wilson) Willoughby. (fourth child out of 15) Married Cornelious Long on May 12, 1930 Independence, MO.

Thelma had a hard life. She struggled to take care of her two boys, Victor & Robert, after her husband went to prison in 1935. She divorced him and then married Sylvestor Vendy, but he was a gambler and they struggeled. After 8/9 yrs she divorced him and remarried the boys' father, Cornelious, in Nov 1949 after they all moved up to Indiana.

Thelma suffered badly from depression & was a diabetic. She died from a heart attack.

1940 Census, Blue Twp, Jackson, MO Thelma Long was listed as married with her two sons, Victor, 8, Robert, 6, & her sister, Grace O'Laughlin, who was widowed at the time.

Thelma was born in 1913. She was the fourth child of fifteen.

Thelma & C. Vic married in 1930, but devorced abt late 1935/early 1936. Thelma married Sylvester 'Phil' Vendy abt 1940. He was a short Iltailian man who had a gambling problem. my dad & uncle said that they even lost thier house cause of his addiction. Thelma & Phil were devorced, & Thelma suffered from severe depression, sent to a mental hospital while the boys stayed with relatives.

In 1949 the boys were then sent to thier dad, C. Vic, (who was now staying with Aunt Miriam 'Aunt Mi' [his mother's sister] & Uncle Harold Willougby [Thelma's uncle]) up in the very NW Indiana... a man that 'Billy' barely remembered & was a total stranger to 'Bobby'. Later that year Thelma followed & Vic & Thelma were married again. Thelma was a diabetic & suffered a heart attack. She passed away in 1970. [1]
