Henry Overton (1st) Wills was born on February 3, 1761, in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, to Rebecca Overton and Edmund Wills. He was baptised on 16 May 1761 at the East Street Independent Church, Andover, Hampshire.[1][2]
WD & HO Wills tobacconists was founded as Wills, Watkins & Co. by Henry Overton Wills I and his partner Watkins, who opened a shop in Castle Street, Bristol in 1786.

Ann Day married Henry Overton Wills I on 24 June 1790 at Bristol, Gloucestershire.[4]
In 1826 his sons William Day Wills and Henry Overton Wills II took over the company.[5]
