He was the son of Christopher WILMOT & Anne MONTAGU d=23 May 1766 Halifax, Nova Scotia. [1]
His father was physician-in-ordinary to George II when he was Prince of Wales.
His mother was a daughter of Edward MONTAGU, of Horton, Northampton, England & a sister of George MONTAGU, 1st Earl of Halifax. Thus he was a cousin of George Montagu Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax, president of the Board of Trade & secretary of state.
Montagu WILMOT was a military officer & Governor of Nova Scotia. Lord Halifax was his patron.
He died on leave to England to recover from a fever contracted in Canada & left no legitimate heirs but may have had Metis children in Canada.
