John and James left wills and did not name a son William.

It would seem your William was the son of William Wilson and Frances Ballard. Their other children were Joshua, James, James may have died about 1830-1840 in Spartanburg South Carolina. William, husband of Frances may have died in Spartanburg, living with son James at that time.
