Biography

William has yet to be identified in the 1851 Canadian census, his wife was noted as married and living with their three youngest children as a farm labourer, two older children, Thomas 14 and Sarah 16, were labouring nearby at harnessmaking.

He is mentioned in the County of Kent record on page 410 where he is noted as an English immigrant who settled in Whitby with a group of colonists under Colonel Tincombe in 1830. He died in 1851 when he was only forty years old leaving his widow and at least six children in hard times.

His parents were identified as William and Hannah of Yorkshire who remained in the old country.

He is recorded in his son John Walton Wilson's death certificate along with his wife recorded as Ann Carrol on Nov 5 1934 (over eighty years after his death).

There were several families of Wilsons in Whitby at the time, from Loyalists who arrived in 1790 to later immigrations from England and Ireland.
