Alice was born about 1874. In 1881 she is living at home with her parents in Orillia, Simcoe, Ontario. She is seven years old, and the second of six children. She is also the first of the family's children to be born in Canada (the first was born in England). Her father is a bookkeeper.
In 1891 she may have been working as a domestic servant for a family in Dundas, Wentworth.
By 1901 Alice was married and living in Dundas with her husband and young son. In 1911 they have three children at home. Alice gives her racial origin as English and her religion as Presbyterian. In 1921 William and Alice have three children at home, mostly grown up. They own their six-room house on Park Street in the town of Dundas.
Alice's parents are still in Orillia, Simcoe in 1891, and she is not at home with them. Although Dundas is a ways from home, it would explain how she met her future husband, who lived there.
