Frances was the daughter of Dr. Archer Alexander Wilson and Elva Beverage born 22 Nov 1931.[1][2]
She was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington D.C., and West Virginia University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. She was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and treasured many reunions with her “sisters” over the years. Frances loved her Mountaineers and enjoyed nothing better than cheering them on to victory.
Frances was a member of Rock Lake Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, devoting countless hours of her time, talent and treasure to help beautify the church campus. She served as trustee, deacon, elder and on various committees and circles, including several different offices in the Presbyterian Women organization. She was church secretary from 1973 – 1974.
Maintaining and nurturing family and friendship connections was of utmost importance to Frances and was one of her greatest talents. Her practice of checking in regularly with phone calls, cards, letters and visits “just because” blessed her with cherished, life-long relationships all across the country. She could always be counted on to send a card or make a call to commemorate birthdays and special occasions and this thoughtfulness and caring will be greatly missed.
Frances was an avid swimmer up to the time of her death. She taught swimming lessons at Ridgewood Pool for many years and helped children and adults alike overcome their fear of the water and learn to enjoy swimming as she did. When her children were growing up, Frances served as a beloved Girl Scout Leader and girl’s church league basketball coach. She loved supporting her grandchildren: travelling many miles to attend horse shows, piano and dance recitals, soccer games, and other events. She especially loved a good surprise, and was a master at planning elaborate surprise visits – much to the joy of her family and friends.
