James married Catherine McCully in Wythe Co. in 1829. It seems likely that they lived in Smyth Co. (formed 1832) until sometime prior to 1860, when they are found in the Wythe Co. Census. By 1870, they had moved again to Russell Co. James was a blacksmith and the movement may be explained by his work.
He passed away about 1883/5.
