Ramsey Ozell Wilson was born October 20, 1884[1][2] in Anderson, Georgia. Founded in 1843, the hamlet of Anderson was known as Anderson Station until the post office was established in November 1855. The government then changed the name of the station from "Anderson" to "Andersonville" in order to avoid confusion with the post office in Anderson, S.C. As late as 1900 the locals and census workers continued to use the name of Anderson paring it with the town of Maysville.[3] Ramsey's parent's were James Andrew Wilson (abt.1861-1936) and Mary Jane (Palmer) Wilson (1861-1917).[4][5] He had six brothers and sisters. On the 7th of April 1907, in the neighboring town of Gainesville, Ramsey married Henrietta (Cox) Wilson (aft.1887-1963) of South Carolina.[6]
The couple had four sons:[7][8][9]
From a young age Ramsey worked at the Pacolet Cotton Mill. The Pacolet Mill was located in New Holland, Georgia and supplied housing to the families of it's employees. Ramsey was witness to the absolute destruction of New Holland from the great Tornado of 1903.[10] On 22 Mar 1970, Ramsey passed away in Hall County, Georgia.[11][1] He is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery and Columbarium in Gainesville, Georgia.[12]
