Thomas Wilson II was born April 5, 1740 at the family homestead on the Monocracy River in Frederick (now Carroll) County, Maryland. His father, a Scotsman who married an Irish girl, had emigrated to America sometime after 1700 and was established at this homestead by 1733. [2] He married June 17, 1776, Elizabeth Hays, who was born Nov., 15, 1755.

He served in the 4th Company, Frederick Detachment of the 4th Battalion of Maryland troops during the American Revolution. After the American Revolution, and sometime before 1790 Thomas Wilson II moved to Black Oak Bottom near Rawlings, Maryland. He lived here for a number of years and then removed, about the year 1800, to what is now called the Kitzmiller area in what is now Garrett County. He lived here for a number of years, sold his property to his son Thomas Wilson III and removed to the Altamont area in what is now Garrett County. He made this move in 1813 at the age of seventy-three. This was his last home. He died here in the year of 1824. His grave was unmarked until 1972, when a committee of the Harvey-Wilson Reunion placed an appropriate grave marker in the family cemetery. The log house which he built is still being used as a residence.

The children of Thomas II and Elizabeth Hays Wilson were: Thomas III, Joseph, James W., Jonathan Hays I, Mary, Michael, Elizabeth, Esther and William. ( By Marshall G. Brown ) Genealogy of the Harvey Family of Garrett County, Md. by Marshall G. Brown

In 1835, however, these slaves were given their liberty under an agreement that they pay ten (10) dollars each year. This original tract of land was still in the family (c. 1931, title being in the name of Abraham Wilson, grandson, born Jul. 11, 1816 being almost 95 years old (c. April 11, 1911). In middle life he moved to the Black Oak Bottom, near Rawlings, Allegany County, In 1813, Thomas Sr., and his wife, Elizabeth, deeded lots 1835 and 1839 (patented to him in 1801) and lot 2036, for $2400. to Michael Wilson; these deeds to Michael were the last he signed in Allegany County. He is buried on his farm on the Potomac, now the property of Robert Wilson. While Thomas Wilson II settled on Black Oak Bottom, he must have resided for a time on the Kitzmiller farm, since he was assessed in 1798 with four military lots, five slaves, two horses and twenty-three cattle, and in the census of 1800 he was listed as head of a family of eleven, with six slaves, in Glades Hundred, now part of Garrett County, MD. In 1813 he deeded to Thomas Wilson III military lot 300 for $300; this was the lot at Kitzmiller patented in 1793 to Frederick Bray.
