Biography

Agnes was born at the family home, Craigmount, Kelvinside, Lanarkshire on the 10th September 1894. She was the daughter of John Wilson, a coal master, and Emma Binnie. ^[1]

A few years after her birth, her father acquired the estates of Airdrie House in Airdrie, Lanarkshire (of which he would subsequently become 1st Baronet) and also Kippen House in Dunning, Perthshire. The family are in residence at Airdrie House in the 1901 census. ^[2] By 1911, the family are in residence at Kippen House in Perthshire but Agnes is away at Roedean School in Rottingdean, Hampshire. ^[3]

In 1918, the family still lived at Kippen but Agnes registered her temporary address in Edinburgh when she married Evelyn Thomson, a Royal Navy Commander, on the 10th April 1918 at St Andrew's United Free Church, Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. ^[4]

The next few years brought them 2 sons.

They subsequently moved to Lindores House, near Newburgh in Fife. Her husband died in December 1941 at her mother's address, Kippen House in Perthshire but was buried in Abdie Churchyard across the loch from his family seat at Lindores. ^[5]

Shortly after his death, she adopted another of her husband's names becoming Ogilvie-Thomson rather than the Thomson she became upon her marriage. ^[6] This was also around the time her elder son, a 2nd lieutenant with the Black Watch, who had been missing since 28th May 1940 in Flanders, was finally declared dead. ^[7]

She was staying at the Hotel Excelsior in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria in July 1957 when she was taken ill there & died at the local hospital. The address given in the hotel register was 20 Kingston House in London. ^{[8] [9]} She was buried with her husband at Abdie Churchyard. ^[10]
