DIED-July 5th, 1896, Mary Elmendorf, whose maiden name was Winchel. She was married to Daniel Elmendorf Feb. 7th, 1824. To them were born five sons and one daughter. Two sons preceded her to the tomb. She was born Jan. 12th, 1806.
Our dear aunt united with the Baptists when sixteen years old, at that time called the Baptist Church of Marbletown, before the division between the Baptists; since then the Olive & Hurley Church. She was baptized by Elder William Warren. It was always her chief joy to meet with the brethren. Her seat was seldom vacant till old age prevented her. She was a member of the same church for seventy-four years, and lived on the same farm about seventy years. She was much beloved by all who knew her. Her mind was very good till the end came. It can truly be said of her that she fought a good fight and kept the faith. She leaves three sons and one daughter, one aged sister, now over eighty years old, with the church, to mourn our loss, which to her, we believe, is great gain. We will with the poet say,
"Cease, then, mourner, cease to languish
O'er the grave of those you love:
Pain and death and night and anguish
Enter not the world above."
Her funeral was held at the the Baptist meeting-house in Olive. Elder J. D. Hubbell preached on the occasion. Her remains were laid in the family buryingground beside those of her husband, there to await that day when God shall call spiritual them forth, from a natural to a spiritual body.
