Thomas was born in 1823. His parents were Thomas Winder and Elizabeth Truelove. He was christened on 4 May 1823 at Darfield Parish Church. [1]
Thomas married Mary Hargate on 23 September 1847 at Darfield, Yorkshire.[1][2] They had nine children. The also adopted a child called Beatrice Arstone..
Thomas passed away on 23 December 1891, age 70. On 24 December 1891 the Sheffield Telegraph newspaper reported:
LAMPLIGHTER FROZEN TO DEATH AT WOMBWELL.
Yesterday morning Thomas Winder, age 70 year, of Broomhill, Wombwell, near Barnsley was found dead at Broomhill. The deceased was a lampman employed by the Wombwell Local Board, and on Tuesday night went his usual round to extinguish the lamps. He did not return, and his son going in search found his father dead on the roadside. The deceased had evidently been seized with a fit, and falling down was frozen to death. The frost had been unusually keen. [3]
He was buried on 26 December 1891 in Wombwell Cemetery, Wombwell, Yorkshire[4]

On 1st April 1872 Thomas Winder and his wife Mary, bought the Beerhouse (Masons Arms) Broomhill, Yorkshire from Joseph Hargate.
On 1 March 1876 Thomas Winder sold the beerhouse to Sam Lancashire who needed a Mortgage.
