Biography

Levi Windsor was born July 13, 1855 at Queen Camel, Somerset, England. He was the eighth child and fourth son of Job Windsor and Ruth Payne out of their eleven children born between 1839 and 1863, comprised of five girls and six boys.

Levi is found in three U.K. census records from 1861 to 1881. In 1861, he is five years old and is living with his parents and nine other siblings at Back Road, Queen Camel. He is going to school with older younger brother, Alfred.

In 1871, there are only three children still at home with their parents in Queen Camel: Levi, who is 15 and now an agricultural labourer and his two younger brothers, Henry and George.

Levi married Emily Brockway from Dorset about Feb. 1874 at Pontypool, Monouthshire, Wales. It is not known if Levi ever worked in the mines in Wales, but no doubt the deaths of two of his older brothers, Luke in 1875 and Absalom in 1874 must have persuaded him to go back to farming.

In 1881, Luke and Emily are living at Donhead, St. Andrew in Wiltshire, England. Luke is back to being an agricultural labourer. They already have two children, a son, Charles, aged 3 and a daughter, Bessie, aged, I year. In the spring of 1882, Levi Windsor and his family with his younger brother, George Windsor emigrated to Australia. They arrived in Queensland Australia in May 1882 and became farmers around the town of MacKay on the east coast. They had three more children there.

Emily Brockway died May 16, 1893 at MacKay, Queensland. Levi remarried on February 21, 1895 to Mary Dunn, who was from Norfolk, England. Levi Windsor and Mary Dunn had nine children of their own together. Levi died October 26, 1936 at MacKay and was buried there the next day. Mary Dunn died at MacKay in May 1959.
