Second marriage notice for Nelson (to Louisa Turner) gave his age as 41 at the time of March 1857. Nelson Winfrey and Louisa Turner. Surety, William C. Turner. Married 4 March 1857 by Jones G. Harris at the house of James Turner. Present was James Harris, Wiley Turner and Catherine Harris. Groom resides in Wayne, age 41 years, born in Adair County, Kentucky., a widower (first wife, Nancy Richards - married in Louisburg, Dallas Co., Missouri); bride resides in Wayne, age 24 years, born at the house of James Turner in Wayne, a maiden. Nelson, son of Thomas Winfrey and his wife Lucy Jones, daughter of Charles B. Jones and Frances Thorp originally of Bedford Co., Va. and later Adair County, Kentucky"

According to the official records based on Kentucky’s contested elections, Nelson Winfrey was stabbed by E.W. Turner. Turner was convicted on a charge of “intent to kill” and served time in the penitentiary (12 months). Nelson Winfrey survived the stabbing. The contested election in Wayne County (Kentucky) had to do with a recounting of votes and the issue of convicted felons voting.

It is interesting to note that Nelson married Louisa Turner which occurred in the house of James Turner. Present at the wedding, among others, was a Wiley Turner. Could the E. W. Turner and Wiley Turner be one and the same ? A daughter, Jane, is listed in the June Baldwin Bork book, but have not seen a listing anywhere else for this daughter. Nelson B. Winfrey died on 30 April 1872, in Wayne Co., Kentucky a† the age of 65.
