Biography

Children: Daniel (married Mrs. Sarah Whittimore), Jashub (1756 - May 15 1802), Philip (married Abigail Swift), Mary (married Edward Handy), Tabitha (married Jonathan Handy).

Jabez Wing was often called Jabez Tobey. His marriage record and the birth records of his children Philip and Tabitha give him the last name Tobey. But his daughter Mary's death record gives him the last name Wing. He was called grandson in the will of Samuel Tobey (4 Sep 1737) and it is believed Jabez was the illegitimate son of Samuel's daughter, Tabitha Tobey.

DNA testing of a direct male descendant of Jabez is an exact match to the Wing family Y-DNA, proving the father of Jabez was a Wing.

Jashub Wing (1674-p1746) was first married to Anna Hoxie (1669-1721) in Feb 1701. Despite having young children, the widow Jabez was not remarried for another 8 years, marrying Dorothy (Butler) Wing on 30 Apr 1729.

Given the above facts, it is believed Jashub Wing was the father of Jabez Tobey alias Wing. It is likely that Jashub had planned on marrying Tabitha Tobey, but for some reason this marriage never took place.
