Although Deborah was recorded as "xiii years old" in a "license to pass beyond the sea" (in this case from England to the Netherlands) dated 22 June 1624, she was actually then 14 or 15, having been baptized in Strood, Kent, on 12 October 1609.[1]. It is also believed her mother, Deborah, was a couple years older than her stated age of 32, and likely born shortly before 1590.
The will of Rev. John Wing(e), dated 2 November 1629, mentions "my daughter Deborah whom I have already advanced in marriage"—that is, her legacy had been in the form of a marriage settlement with Deborah's husband.[2]
While some speculate that Deborah was the wife of Edward Fo(o)rd, one of the overseers of Rev. John's last Will, research has indicated Edward was a contemporary of Rev. John, and thus likely too old to have married his daughter. In addition, there is no evidence to support such a claim.
The before 1680 date for death is due to the fact Deborah was not mentioned as an heir of the estate of her brother, Matthew. It is possible she was then still living, but not considered an heir (due to the property being located in Plymouth Colony and Deborah possibly remained in England).
