At the time of the 1840 census, 41-year-old Joseph was living in Ware County, GA with his wife and their eight children. Joseph was working as a farmer, and had been born in the state of Georgia. [2]
At the time of the 1850 census, 51-year-old Joseph J. Winn was living in Ware County, GA with his wife and nine of their children. Joseph was working as a farmer, as were several of his sons. Joseph owned real estate valued at $500. Four of Joseph's children were attending school. [3]
At the time of the 1860 census, 61-year-old Joseph J. was living with his wife and their four youngest children in Pierce County, GA. The two youngest children were still attending school. Joseph was still working as a farmer. The real estate Joseph owned was valued at $1,000 and his personal estate was valued at $5,500. [4]
Joseph's wife, Sarah, died in 1869.
At the time of the 1870 census, 71-year-old Joseph was living in Pierce County, GA with his two youngest daughters (Nancy and Frances) and an 18-year-old farm laborer by the name of Jordan Rezier. Joseph was still farming, presumably with Jordan's help. Joseph's real estate was valued at $500, and his personal estate was valued at $1214. [5]
He passed away in 1873, and was buried in Blackshear, GA.[6][7]
