Biography

Name

In the 1904 Indian census, her Hocąk name is given as, He Noo Ka Ho No Kah, which is for Hinųgᵋxųnųga. This name is from hinų́k, "female, lady"; xųnų, "young, little"; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. The name therefore means, "Little Lady," or "Young Lady."

Birth

Nellie was born in 1897 (1930 Census), and in 1895 in the 1904 census, which suggests that she was born in 1896.
