Edith Ann was born in 1881 at Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire, the daughter of Arthur Henry Gilbert Winship and Sophia Winship formerly Hare/Hair. [1]
In the 1891 census Edith was living with her parents and siblings at Winships Brickyard, Humber Bank, Barton upon Humber. Aged 9 years, she was attending school. [2]
Edith Ann Winship married John Foster on 16 October 1900 at St. Mary's Church, Barton on Humber. Their marriage certificate recorded John was a bachelor aged 22 and a mariner. His father was named as John Foster, a mariner. Edith was a spinster aged 19. Her father was named as Arthur Henry Gilbert Winship, a mariner. At the time of their marriage John was living at Waterside and Edith at Winship's Brickyard. Their witnesses were Joseph Foster and Ada Foster. [3]
John and Edith have not been located in the 1901 census.
Edith Ann Foster died on 8 May 1901 at Waterside Rd, Barton on Humber aged 19 years of ulcerative endocarditis, 17 days. Her death certificate further recorded Edith was the wife of John Foster, a keelman. The informant of the death was John Foster, widower of the deceased, of the same address. He had been present at the death. [4]
