Elizabeth Winslow was born the 29th of January, 1706-07, at Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay, to Samuel Winslow & Mercy (King) Winslow.[1]
Elizabeth married Jonathan Delano Jr, circa 1724, probably at Rochester, MA, as Elizabeth, their first daughter, was born the 11th of November, 1725.[2]
The children of Elizabeth & Jonathan are all recorded at Rochester, MA, as "Dilanoy":[3]
Her death date & location are unknown (Rochester, MA, is presumed), & the date attached here, before the 11th of September, 1736, is derived from the marriage intention date of Jonathan to Elizabeth Turner Sprague.[4] The Winslow Memorial, Vol. 1, pg. 88, states she died at Petersham, Worcester, MA, in 1789/90, but this is clearly an error.
These "Research Notes" were left by Chris Brady:
1) "There is no evidence that this Elizabeth is the child of Samuel Winslow."
Yes there is. Jonathan Delano calls Elizabeth's father, Samuel Winslow, his father in law, in his Last Will & Testament & appoints Samuel as one of two executors.[6]
2) "According to The Winslow Memorial, she died unmarried in Petersham, Worcester, MA, in 1789/90. Petersham is also where her father, Samuel Winslow , died in 1760.
First, The Winslow Memorial is not a "new source" as it's referenced in the biography section, stating it was in error. Second, it was published in 1877, & it's considered a secondary source, not a primary source. The primary source that is referenced in this work, was the administration records of Elizabeth Winslow, 1789-90, at Petersham, MA. Unfortunately, the author of this work, & Chris Brady, clearly did not reference these records or read them thoroughly enough. In the second document of this administration it states:
Kenelm & Ebenezer, & the wives of Ephraim Whitney, Phillip Spooner & Samuel Peckham are children of Kenelm Winslow & Elizabeth Clapp. This administration is for Elizabeth Clapp Winslow, not Elizabeth Winslow Delano (who didn't die "unmarried") & the Kenelm mentioned, is her son, not a "nephew".
Lastly, the date of "October 3, 1797" used for Jonathan Sanderson's report in the The Winslow Memorial, is actually, the 18th of October, 1791, in the administration records.[7]
3) "There is no marriage record for Elizabeth Winslow in the Rochester marriage records. "
True, as is implied in the marriage data in the biography section: "... circa 1724, probably at Rochester, MA".
