Robert Winsor's origins are unknown, he is thought to have been born in England c 1619. The first evidence of him in New England, is in October, 1644, Rebecca, wife of Robert Winsor, was admitted to the First Church. [1]

His wife was Rebecca Scottow who was baptized at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England on May 28, 1626, the daughter of Thomas Scotto and Thomasine Scottow. [2]

Robert was a blockmaker, making nautical blocks, and wood turner. It is apparent from the fact that Rebecca operated a 'cook shop' for 18 years, while many of her children were still quite young, and that her brothers had to support the family through deeds and mortgages, that they were financially insecure.

  • 1676: Robert was assessed L10 in house taxes. [2]
  • 1677: By this year, Rebecca had signed over her rights to the property obtained from brother Thomas in 1648, to her brother Joshua. [2]
