Mary Ann Winstanley was born in 1850 [1] in Warrington, Lancashire, England, the daughter of James Winstanley and Lucy Looker.
She was baptised on 16 June 1850 at St Paul's Church in Warrington. [2] Her father's occupation was recorded as brick layer, and the family's address as Towns End.[3]
In 1851 Mary was with her parents in Queen Street, Warrington. Her father was a bricklayer. [4]
Her mother died later that year. Her father remarried.
In 1861 Mary was living in Sutton, Lancashire with her father, stepmother and her half-sister. [5]
