Biography
Eleanor Winter was born about 1855, her birth being registered at Worthing, Sussex in the last quarter of that year[1]. She was the daughter of William George Winter and his wife Harriet Viney.
She was baptised on 11 November 1855 at Littlehampton, Sussex[2].
In the 1861 England Census, Eleanor Winter (aged 4) was recorded living with her father William George Winter (39 and a Seaman), her mother Harriet Winter (38) and siblings William George Winter (16), John Winter (14), Louisa Winter (12), Hannah Maria Winter (10), Elizabeth Harriet Winter (8) and Henry Winter (6) at 104, South Side Bevois Street, St Mary, Southampton, Hampshire.
By 1871, Elenor Winter (aged 13 and a Servant) was probably recorded in the household of Joseph J Pitt (27) and his wife Marina M Pitt (27) at Belmont Road, Park Cottage, South Stoneham, Hampshire, England.
At the age of 20 she married George William Sawyer on 14 October 1877 in Long Ditton Parish Church, Surrey, by Licence[3]. The witnesses were Chas Wm Braddock and Wm S Allen.
They went on to have 10 children.
Her husband George was a Tailor. She lived with her husband and children at Melbourne Street, Southampton St Mary, Hampshire, England (1881), Carlton Place, Southampton, Hampshire, England (1891), 51 Portswood Somerset Road, Southampton, Portswood, South Stoneham, Hampshire, England (1901)and 4 Somerset Road Southampton, Portswood, Hampshire, England (1911).
