Biography

Isaac Winter was born in July 1848 in New Jersey. He was the son of John Winters and Ruth Unknown. He never married. He died about February 1936 in Juneau, Wisconsin, at the age of 87.

Isaac Winter, known as "Dike", lived much of his life in the home of Sharp and Ella Winter, apart from the time he served in the 142nd Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. His Uncle Ike and maiden Aunt Elizabeth lived in the household as well. Ike and Dike lived in the same household for many years and seemed to have had a close relationship, with Dike emulating his uncle in being a bachelor and benefactor.

Dike worked at the Winter Metallic Paint Company for some time, then bought it from Ike. The company continued to prosper; Dike became quite wealth and was very generous to family members in need, making mortgage and property tax payments during hard times. He was fond of sending hair ribbons and beautiful dress fabric from Marshall Field's to the girls and paid for the college education of many.

Winter, Issac, 88, Horicon, died recently at Juneau. He was a Civil war veteran. Mr. Winter was born in New Jersey.
