Obit
Obeyed the Summons
Mrs. Nancy Brown, relict of Archibald Brown, and mother of our townsman, Mr. Ervin Brown, died on last Saturday, Oct 13, in her ninety-second year. Mrs. Brown was one of the pioneers of this country, having emigrated to Highland county in eighteen hundred and twelve. She was born in Rockbridge county, Va, April 10, 1798. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom still survive her, two having died in infancy; another, Mrs. Stephens, died last year in Boston, this county. Mrs. Brown had been a widow for nearly a lifetime, her husband having died in 1840, forty-eight years ago. She was formerly a member of the Associate Reformed Church at Fall Creek, and died clinging to her Calvinistic belief. She repeatedly expressed herself as being ready for her change. The funeral services took place at the residence of her son, Mr. Ervin Brown, of West Walnut street, conducted by Mr. McSurely, after which her remains were interred in the burial grounds at Boston. It is but very few of the eighteenth century still await the call of the grim messenger; a few more removals to the other world and the pioneers of Ohio will live only in history. [7]
Research Notes
Granddaughter Catherine Brown married Paxton Douglas Wise also of Virginia. They are probably related.
Children
Per the census of 1850, she has 3 children living with her, and another son, whom she lived with in 1880. That gives us 4 children of the 5 that did not die in infancy. [8]
Margaret, who was born in 1847 was born after Archibald had died.
