Martha was born about 1799 in Havant, Hampshire, England, to James and Martha Wise. She was baptized at St. Faiths in Havant on September 10, 1799.[1]
She was married on Nov 30, 1824, at Saint Faith in Havant, Hampshire to William Ellen. The following is from the Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle:
"Married, on Tuesday last, Mr. Wm. Ellen, of Oxenden-square, London, to Miss Martha Wise, daughter of Mr. J. Wise, of the Dolphin Inn, Havant."[2][3]
The Ellens resided in Shoreditch, Middlesex. Martha was widowed in 1851, losing her husband William to a tragic accident on Christmas.[4]
