Research Notes

No evidence has been submitted to show that Elizabeth was born in Massachusetts.

On June 10 2021, a search for the surname Wiseman among parish registers in Wiltshire County, England, produced the name of Elizabeth Wiseman, daughter of Henry Wiseman, christened 16 July 1635 in Bramshaw,[1] who is possibly the subject of this profile. The village of Bramshaw was formerly divided between Hampshire and Wiltshire, but is now entirely within Hampshire County, 11 miles west of Southampton and about two miles south of Landford, birthplace of Robert Pike and residence of his father John Pike who settled in Newbury Massachusetts.,[2] Further research is necessary to strengthen evidence of this identity.

On 10 June 2021, a search for the surname Wiseman among parish registers in Hampshire County, England between 1550 and 1630 on familysearch.org brought up about 120 entries including many duplicates. Most of these were from the village of Ringwood, about 22 miles west of Southampton, where several families showed repeated christenings with the forenames Alice, Elizabeth, and William. None of these seemed to fit this profile or her probable siblings, but this area may warrant further Wiseman research.

Elizabeth Wiseman was not the daughter of William Richardson and his wife Elizabeth (Wiseman) Richardson. An error in a The Richardson Memorial showed that William's daughter Elizabeth Wiseman married John Clifford.[3] But that was incorrect. William and his wife only had two children - Joseph and Benjamin. There was no daughter of this couple named Elizabeth Richardson. Elizabeth (Wiseman) Richardson (William's widow) is the one who married John Clifford. [4] William Richardson and Elizabeth (Wiseman) have been removed as her parents.

No sources have been found to show that Mary (Allen) Wiseman was her mother, and she had been removed from her profile.

Wiseman-1059 and Wiseman-293 do not represent the same person because: these are NOT the same - dates are way to far off!!!! Elizabeth was a VERY common name

Wiseman-1059 and Wiseman-293 appear to represent the same person because: Elizabeth Wiseman-1059, as such, did not exist.

Elizabeth Wiseman-1059 had been shown as the daughter of William Richardson, based on an incorrect source, The Richardson Memorial. A much newer source has found that older information to be incorrect. She was actually William Richardson's first wife, and with him had 2 sons. As his widow, Elizabeth (Wiseman) Richardson married John Clifford by whom she had additional children.

Please merge to Wikseman-293, retaining sources and all data field elements from -293.

Holly, Elizabeth Wiseman as a daughter of William Richardson is incorrect. It was an erroneous entry in a publication that showed she was a twin to Benjamin, and that she married John Clifford. This is incorrect. It was William Richardson's widow Elizabeth (Wiseman) Richardson who married John Clifford. Here is a link to the source that has the erroneous information for her: https://archive.org/details/richardsonmemori00vint/page/814/mode/1up?view=theater. If you will look at this source, published in 2006, you will see the correct information for William's children: https://archive.org/details/descendantsofwil00simo/page/1/mode/1up

Would you please disconnect the erronous parents and we will re-propose the merge with Wiseman-293 (currently shown as her mother). Thank you

Wiseman-1059 and Wiseman-293 do not represent the same person because: Wiseman-1059 is the daughter of William Richardson and Wiseman-293 is the wife of William Richardson. Wiseman-1059 should be Elizabeth Richardson, not Elizabeth Wiseman.

Actually, it was an error in a publication that showed the Elizabeth Wiseman-1059 was the daughter of William. This source showed that William's daughter Elizabeth Wiseman married John Clifford. But that was incorrect. William and his wife only had two children - Joseph and Benjamin. There was no Elizabeth Richardson. Elizabeth (Wiseman) Richardson (William's widow) is the one who married John Clifford. Hence, what needs to happen to -1059 is that both of her parents need to be disconnected, and then the need to merge her into -293 will be clearer

Wiseman-1059 and Wiseman-293 appear to represent the same person because: No sources are provided in profile Wiseman-1059; however,John Adams Vinton proposes a daughter for William and Elizabeth (Wiseman) Richardson, presumably as a twin of their son Benjamin, although he does not propose a birth date for Elizabeth. Apparently, Vinton found the marriage of Wiseman- 293 with John Clifford on 28 September 1868 but misread the date as 1688, and therefor presumed it was a non-existent daughter of William Richardson and Wiseman 293 who married John Clifford.

Vinton, John Adams. The Richardson Memorial. Portland, ME: Brown Thurston, 1876. page 814, http://ia341024.us.archive.org/0/items/richardsonmemori00vint/richardsonmemori00vint_bw.pdf, Accessed 26 November 2009. In a more recent genealogy, The author agrees that Wiseman-1059 did not exist. Simon, Vaughn L. Descendents of William Richardson and Elizabeth Wiseman. I Paperback ed. Bloomington, IN: iUniverse, Inc., 2006. No record for the birth of Wiseman-1059 is found in the Newbury VRs although the birt of her supposed twin, Benjamin, is recorded.

What source shows her birth? Also, if her father is Richardson, that should be her last name.

Thank you.
