Note: Wellsley College Class of 1915.
Nana died in the Mckerley nursing home (?) while suzanne was living on Sapphire street Near Costa Mesa CA. Nana's English teacher at Wellesley was the woman who wrote the words to America the beautiful. Gretchen worked tirelessly to get the US Postal service to put her on a US postage stamp.
Nana had a maid, Helen robertson? in her last few years in Maplewood. Their monthly milk purchase was 20 quarts, prompting her son to speculate that Helen "toted" a lot of milk home to her family. Gretchen hired Florence as her laundress. Florence worked for Gretchen's mother before she worked for Gretchen. Florence's son became a stock broker and lived in Japan. Florence might have been a single mother who put her son through college.
Uncle Buck hired India and Arthur. Later gretchen hired India and Arthur, who drove Mary Lou to high school at Miss Beard's school in East Orange. Mamie was a housekeeper and excellent cook for Gretchen. Helen "melon" cooked southern fried chicken. Most of her dishes had too much salt in them.
