In Memorium

Otis W. Witcher, son of Taliaferro and Mary Belle (Hardin) Witcher, was born at Canon City, Colorado, on Febrary 27 1881. He was raised and educated in Canon City, graduated from the High School there, and then attended the School of Mines at Fort Collins, Colorado, where he obtained an engineer's degree. He then attended the college at Bushnell, Illinois, where he studied mechanical drawing.

On November 17, 1902 , Otis Witcher and Miss Bertha Medearis were united in marriage. To this union the following children were born: Mildred, Ruth, Alice, Betty, T. Otis, Harold and Helen Bertha.

Otis Witcher engaged in ranching and engineering and with his family lived his life at Canon City and Cotopaxi, Colorado. During the later years of his life the family residence was at Cotopaxi where he was honored and respected as an honorable Christian husband, father, friend and associate. Otis was a member of the Methodist Church of Canon City, Colorado.

Otis enjoyed a very active and healthful life and was 85 years, 5 months and 12 days of age when his life ceased at the St. Thomas Moore Hospital in Canon City on August 9, 1966. His wife had suffered major surgery prior to his passing but was able to comfort and succor him in his hours of travail.

Funeral ceremonies were held for him at the Cotopaxi Community Church on August 12 by the Reverend Loyd Barnett of the First Methodist Church of Salida, Colorado. Mrs. Cleo Estes and Mrs. Mattie Augustine, accompanied by Mrs. Idell Young, sand "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The concluding ceremonies of the church and internment were at the Cotopaxi Community Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Cleo Estes, Jerry Estes, Marion Meredith, Vic Miller, Leo Young and John Young.

Otis W. Witcher is survived by his wife, Bertha May, six children, Mrs. Mildred Owens, Mrs. Bill Lee (Ruth), Mrs. W. H. Tompkins (Alice), Mrs. J. A. Dodge (Betty), T. Otis Witcher and Harold Witcher. Helen Bertha preceded in death May 23, 1964. There are nineteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one brother T. Lee Witcher, surviving.
