Biography

The daughter of William Charles Witherell (1852-1921) and Emma J. Knapp (1860-1936), Lena Witherell was born in the village of Franklin, Michigan in 1883.[citation needed] She lived with her family in Tecumseh, Michigan.[1]Her siblings included:

  1. Clarence Walter Witherell (1880-1960)
  2. Carrie Witherell (1884-)
  3. Etta R. Witherell (1887-1887)
  4. George Henry Witherell (1890-1950)

Lena Witherell married William Coller, marrying in Tecumseh Township on August 18, 1903[2] and having five children together. They made their home in Tecumseh Township, residing with her parents while her husband worked at a sporting goods store.[3] By 1920, her husband had purchased the store and they had established their household at 217 S. Pottawatamie Street in Tecumseh. Lena worked then as a musician as "Coller's Theatre."[4]

Lena filed for divorce in May of 1922.[5] She moved to Jackson, Michigan with her children, in a household that included her widowed mother and a lodger.[6] Lena worked as a piano teacher, teaching out her home. She remarried later in 1930, marrying Willis Mack Rockwell (1879-1970), the son of Merari Mack Rockwell and Alfreda Nancy Billings. They married in Williams County, Ohio on September 13, 1930.[7] Willis Rockwell had been married previously to Sylvia Lodoska Healy (1881-1928).

They made their home in Jackson, Michigan.[8] Lena Rockwell passed away in Grass Lake, Michigan[9] at the age of 89[10] and is buried at Roseland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Michigan.[11]
