William Withers Sr. is a part of US Black heritage.
William was born in 18 June 1891 in Concord, Appomattox, Virginia to Virginia Withers. [1][2] He died 15 July 1951 in East Beckley, Raleigh, West Virginia at age 60. [3] His cause of death was Ischemia, chronic glomerulonephritis and chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis. [4] Early on he worked as a farmer on his own account, but later earned a living as a miner. [5][6] On his 1917 World War I Draft Registration Card he was described as tall, medium build, with brown eyes and black hair. [7] He was also married. [8]
Burial
He was buried in Slab Ford Cemetery#2, Sophia, Raleigh County, West Virginia. [9]

William and his family were listed as servants in the household of Sam Lee. In the FamilySearch Family Tree this was equated to Sam Lee being his father. Evidence will need to be found to support this. At this time, William's father is unknown.

Marriage
William married Mattie Rosiemay Galloway Martin on March 27, 1931, in Welch, WV. The marriage certificate lists William as divorced and Mattie as widowed. It gives his parents' names as "Geo & Va." [10]
