Biography

Birth

Jerusha was born in 1801 probably in Salisbury, Montgomery, New York, USA. Although no birth record has been discovered, her birth location is accepted as this as her parents were living in Salisbury at the time. (Note: people reading this saying "wait, Salisbury is in Herkimer County" would be right, today. But in 1801 Salisbury was a part of Montgomery County.) She was the daughter of Moses Witt and Bethiah Nichols.

Research Notes

Many researchers of this family have indicated that this child of Moses and Bethia Witt was named Theresa. However, there has never been uncovered any other records of her. Knowing that much of this history was passed down in family records, both written and oral I had occasion to ask Jean White, co-author of THE ANCESTORS and DESCENDANTS of MOSES DEWITT / 1759 - 1850, if perhaps Theresa could have been incorrectly identified and that actually her name was Jerusha. After several days of contemplation and reviewing her records she wrote back and said that she was sure this was the case. So the name was changed accordingly. ^[1]

First Marriage

Research indicates that Jerusha most likely was taken as the wife of a man with the family name of Hix. His given name is not known. Nor is it known what happened to him. ^[2]

Second Marriage

Jerusha married a second time. Whether Mr. Hix passed away, they were divorced, or separated amicably is not known. Irregardless, Jerusha became the wife of Abram (or Abraham) Warn/Warne. ^[2]

Children

It is known that Jerusha was a mother, but whether her children were fathered by Hix, Warne, or by both is not known.

Death

Jerusha Warne passed away 24 Sep 1876 Lowville, Lewis, New York, USA as that is where both Jerusha here husband are buried in the /Fairwood (AKA Reed) Cemetery. ^[3]
