Margaret WOGAN, daughter of James and Ann, was born about 1836, in County Meath, Ireland. [1] [2]
On 21 November 1849, Margaret was one of 162 orphan girls, who emigrated to Port Jackson, in the Colony of New South Wales, aboard William and Mary. Her entry in the shipping records describe her as a 16 yr old, Roman Catholic, farm servant, who was unable to read or write, and had no relatives in the colony. [1] [2]
Margaret, aged about 18 years, married Hugh HENRY on 17 February 1851, in St Michael's church, at Bathurst, New South Wales. They had four children.
Prior to the death of Hugh HENRY she started a relationship with William FOX. Their daughter Eliza was born at Hovells Creek (between Bathurst and Young, NSW) on 5 Apr 1860. The birth certificate states Margaret and William were married in 1858 in Tumut, NSW. There are no official records of this marriage. Hugh HENRY died by drowning in May 1860, after the birth of Eliza. Margaret had a second daughter with William Fox on 24 Oct 1861 at Burrangong, near Young, NSW. Death records show a William Fox dying in Yass in May 1873.
In 1866, Margaret married Martin GILL, at Young. They had two children. [1]
Margaret died, aged 88 years, on 15 March 1924, at Young. [1]
