DNA Information
Gary's Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) final values for the Y-DNA67 test were the first DNA results for a Silas descendant extended to the 67 marker level.
:These results match on 66 of 67 markers with several other lines descended from the Wolcott community of Brookfield, Massachusetts. These include a descendant of Nathaniel Wolcott of Brookfield (1700-1771), a brother of John Wolcott IV (1695- ) who is thought to have had a second family at Wilcott's Island on the Connecticut River, and descendants of Abner Wolcott/Wilcott (1749-1833), believed to be a grandson of John Wolcott IV, and a descendant of the "Missing Link" line of Thomas Willcutt of North Carolina (1758-).
According to the FTDNA model, a match of 66 of 67 markers implies a 95% probability of a common ancestor within 8 generations, a 98% probability within 10 generations, and a 99% probability within 12. Clearly, all of these lines, including descendants of Silas Wolcott of Pennsylvania, Abner Wolcott/Wilcott, Thomas Willcutt of North Carolina, and Nathaniel Wolcott of Brookfield, are closely related as descendants of the Brookfield Wolcott community descended from the immigrant, John Wolcott of Watertown, Massachusetts (1599-1638).
The lone anomaly marker separating the testee from other descendants of the Brookfield Woclott's is the value of 14 for the marker 389i. This 14 value is shared by descendants of Silas Wolcott, his brother Barnabas Wolcott, and Abner Wolcott, of Elijah Wilcut (1797-1864) (believed to be a son of Silas' brother, John, and by a descendant of the John Wolcott V of Brookfield born to John Wolcott IV's Brookfield wife, Dinah Walker.
These DNA results overwhelmingly support the conclusion that Silas Wolcott of Pennsylvania was descended from the Wolcott community of Brookfield, Massachusetts. The challenge remains of determining the true nature of the relationships among these various lines of Wolcott frontiersmen.
Gary Lynn Wolcott's positive result for DNA SNP Y22158 provides definitive proof that descendants of Silas Wolcott of Pennsylvania are descended from John Wolcott I of Watertown, MA including the Wolcott community of Brookfield, MA.'Beardsley-386 13:56, 1 November 2016 (EDT)
Paternal and Maternal relationships are both confirmed by autosomal test matches between Gary Wolcott and Bernadine (Wolcott) Beardsley, his sister. Their most-recent common ancestors are Harold Wolcott and Sarah Cook, the parents of both Gary Wolcott and Bernadine (Wolcott) Beardsley. Predicted relationship from MyHeritageDNA: siibling, based on sharing 2603.5 cM across 37 segments.
Paternal and Maternal relationships are both confirmed by an autosomal Family Tree DNA test match between Gary Wolcott and Robert Beardsley, his great nephew. Their most-recent common ancestors are Harold Wolcott and Sarah Cook, the parents of Gary Wolcott and great grandparents of Robert Beardsley. Predicted relationship from Family Tree DNA: great uncle, based on sharing 981 cM across 30 segments.
Maternal relationship is confirmed through Mitochondrial DNA test results on Family Tree DNA. Gary Wolcott, FTDNA kit # 255142, and his nephew, John Beardsley, FTDNA kit # B2385, have an exact HVR1 and HVR2 match, thereby confirming their direct maternal lines back to their most-recent common ancestor who is Sarah Cook, the mother of Gary Wolcott and grandmother of John Beardsley.
