Maxwell Frederick Wolfe was born in 1910 in Funkstown, Washington, Maryland, United States, son of William David Wolfe (1879–1957) and Sadie Blanche Davis (1884–1962).^[1]

Maxwell married Pearl Elizabeth Lashley (born 1911 in Hagerstown, Maryland; daughter of George Lashley (1879–1935) and Lillie Florence (Mowery) Lashley (1879–1950)). Their children were:
