Biography

Patricia Wolff Hollyfield, 67, of Marion, died Saturday, January 28, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the daughter of Hedevig H. Wolff 1903–2003 of Silver Spring, Md., and the late Lyman Henry. Wolff 1902–1957.

She was the granddaughter of the late Dr. Frank A. Wolff and Lillian J. Wolff. Dr. Wolff was one of the founders of the National Bureau of Standards.

She grew up in Utah. Mrs. Hollyfield attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She was a student of oriental art and a great lover of art, music, nature and books. She founded a Multiple Sclerosis Outreach Group at Andrews Air Force Base in 1986 and led the group until 1992 when her health would no longer allow her to carry out her duties. She counseled many of the first diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis patients for the Washington Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She accompanied her husband while on duty with the USAF at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Norfork, England and Washington, D.C.

She is survived by her husband, Claude M. Hollyfield, Lt. Col. USAF Retired of Marion; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gale and Dexter Goodwin of Greer, S.C., Hedy and Dr. Arthur Weissinger, Raleigh, N.C., Elizabeth and Steve Miller, Lewes, Del.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Neil and Nancy Hollyfield, Marion, John and Lynn Hollyfield, and Jay Hollyfield all of Accokeek, Md.; her mother, Hedevig H. Wolff of Silver Spring, Md.; two sisters, Joan Dubrule of Takoma Park, Md., and Kathy Frank of Reno, Nev.; one uncle, Dr. Julian Fahy of Washington D.C.; one sister-in-law, JoAnne Wolff of Falls Church; eleven grandchildren, Meredith, Dexy, Elizabeth, and Will Goodwin, Annie, Maren and Davis Hollyfield, Stephen, Emory, and Charles Miller, and Kiersten Weissinger.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, at the Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Michael J. Zumpf officiating. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Patricia Wolff Hollyfield Memorial Fund, c/o Christ Episcopal Church, 409 West Main St., Marion, Va. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
