Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
William Womack Sr. was a Virginia colonist.

William was born about 1675 in Henrico County, Virginia (became Goochland in 1728). He is the son of Abraham Womack. He passed away before March 1762 (date will entered for probate) in Goochland County, Virginia.

Marriage & Children

The name of William's wife is disputed. There are many who say he was married to Mary Woodson, daughter of Joseph Woodson. This seems to be based on the fact that at times the Womack and Woodson families interacted and/or lived near each other. No documentation is presented for the actual marriage.

Others maintain he was actually married to Mary Farrar, daughter of Priscilla Baugh and William Farrar, and granddaughter of Jane Gower. Again no documentation for the actual marriage is available. However, in the will of Jane Gower dated 7 December 1710, the following Farrar children are named in order:

Item I give to my Grandson Abel Farrar one feather bed boulster and Pillow one blanket and Rugg and pair of Sheets.
Item I give to my Grand Daughter Mary Womack four Silver Spoones.

Since elsewhere in her will Jane has listed members of the same family together, it has been predicated that "Grand daughter Mary Womack" was actually Mary Farrar, sister of Abel Farrar, and wife of William Womack. For more information on the Gower, Farrar and Womack family connections see Jane Gower Research.

Whomever he married, William and Mary had the following known children:

  • Priscilla Womack married Mr Doss
  • Martha Womack married Mr Nichols
  • William Womack
  • Sarah Womack married 1) Robert Woodson, 2) James Barrett
  • Mary Womack married John Williams
  • Agnes Womack married John Bulloch
  • Judith Womack, married Ralph Graves (birth of first child 1 Sep 1756)[1]

Please see wiki/Evans-7559. My ancestor is Evans, who was adjacent neighbor to William Womack-139, Robert Adams-1322 and Thomas Randolph-123, all were living on Tuckahoe Creek in Goochland Co VA at the same time as documented in deeds of Goochland Co VA.
