Biography

Daniel was born about 1648 in Essex, Massachusetts Bay, son of Daniel & Mary. Daniel Wood married Sarah Andrews in 1674, Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts. Source: #S214 He passed away about 1719.

Research Notes

  • Note: There is another Daniel Wood (husband of Elizabeth) who had children from 1706 (William) to 1739 (Enos) in Bristol MA. This must be another Daniel Wood.

It had been asserted there that Daniel Wood died before 22 Feb 1715 in Boxford, Essex, Mass. evidently on the belief that his will was proved on that date. However, the Essex County Probate Journal contains no such probate (searched from January 1 1714/5 through April 15, 1715) for the will of this son of Daniel Wood and Mary Foster. The administrator's bond, inventory, and agreement among heirs all date from 1719. The probate documents also make repeated mention of his "widow," even though his first wife, Sarah Andrews, had died before 1715. These facts support the concept that Daniel Wood (born c. 1748) was the Daniel Wood shown in the Rowley VR as marrying Elizabeth Hopkinson (widow of John) in 1715, and that she was widowed again when Daniel died so as to be able to marry Captain Joseph Boynton later on.

A search of FamilySearch for Daniel Wood born about this time found only two distinct possibilities. -3141 and -1319 appear to be the same person, based on the sources I have added to -1319. The second Daniel appeared to live much longer than to c1715, based on the children fathered. Ispswich and Rowley are very near each other, both in Essex county.

Wood-3141 and Wood-1319 have very close dates. They are both missing a key piece needed to determine if they are the same. Wood-3141 needs a wife. Wood-1319 needs parents. Research needs to be done. Then merge or reject.
