Biography

Ann Elizabeth Wood was born in 1851 in Feering, Essex, England to James Wood and Elizabeth (South) Wood. Her birth was registered in Witham, Essex in the second quarter of the year.^[1]

Ann was orphaned as a child - her mother passed away in 1854 and her father in 1860.

In 1861 Ann E Wood (age 9, scholar) lived at Old Road in Feering with her grandfather John Wood (72, Agricultural Labourer) and grandmother Ann Wood (72).^[2]

Ann Elizabeth Wood married William Raven in 1869. The marriage was registered in Witham in the last quarter of the year.^[3]

Ann and William had two daughters: Emily Louisa (Raven) Green (1870-1966) and Eleanor (Raven) Golightly (1872-1960).

In 1871 Ann Elizabeth Raven (age 19) lived in Feering with her husband William (20, Agricultural Labourer), daughter Emily Louisa (0), and widowed grandfather John Wood (79).^[4]

Between 1872 and 1874 the family relocated to Durham - likely due to the availability of jobs in the coal industry.
