Alfred was born on 14 November 1902 at 7 Thimble Mill Road, Smethwick, Staffordshire, the son of Alfred Wood, a metal polisher, and Annie Wood formerly Cashmore. The informant of his death was his father A. Wood, of the same address. [1]
His father Alfred Wood died in 1906 when Alfred was aged 3 years.
In the 1911 census Alfred was living with his mother at 37 Thimble Mill [Thimblemill] Rd, Bearwood, Smethwick. He was aged 8 years. [2]
Alfred Wood married Cecilia E Cullwick in 1922. [3]
This couple had four children.
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Alfred and Cecilia were residing at 39 Ethel Street, Smethwick. Alfred, born 14 November 1902, was aged 36. He was working as a petrol tank driver. Cecilia, born 7 May 1906, was aged 33. Daughter Marguerite, born 21 April 1923, was aged 16. She was a typist. Marguerite's surname was later amended to Silcock, her married surname. Son John, born 12 April 1938, was aged 1. The record for one child remains closed at this time [2018]. Their youngest child was born after the war. [4]
Alfred Wood died in 1980 aged 78 years. [5]
Cecilia Elizabeth Wood died in 2005 aged 98 years. [6]
