James was the son of John Wood and Maria Oddy. He was born in New Zealand in 1857
He married Lucy Keys in 1881. They had a son in 1882, but sadly Lucy died of blood poisoning during childbirth.
James was married again to Mary Prouse, daughter of Richard Prouse and Janet Gorrie. They had six children.
Their marriage on 11 August 1885 was at the home of Richard Prouse (father-in-law) [1][2]
James died in 1940, aged 82. He was buried in Homedale Methodist Cemetery, Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt. [3]
