John Woods married Elfreda E Chant in 1911 in Wickham, New South Wales.[2]

John Woods, Church of England, married miner aged 27 from Fleming Street, Smedmore, Newcastle, New South Wales enlisted as a Private with the 34th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement on 7 April 1916, Regimental number 2180. He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 24 August 1916. Next of kin, wife, Mrs Alfreda Woods, Fleming Street, Smedmore, Newcastle, New South Wales.

He was Killed in Action on 13 October 1917, no known grave.

Commemorated at The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. [3]
