Biography

John was born in 1764.

John may have been married first on 4 December 1784 in Rowan County, North Carolina to Mary Ann Scott. He and Robert Scott signed the bond.[1]

John was married about 24 December 1793 (the date he signed the marriage bond) in Rowan County, North Carolina to Avis Beard. The bond persons for the marriage were John Wood and Zacariah Booth. John signed the document with an X.[2]

In his father's 1795 will: "I do give and Bequeath to my son John Wood one Hundred Eacres of of Land ajoining to his Brother Henery and Both of their [illegible] to be run East and West and if Johns hundred eacres of land without taking in the Buildings I would Desire an of set on the West End for complyment & no more."[3]


In 1800, John Wood's household in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina contained five free white persons:[4]
